God’s call to 'seek good' is not passive. It demands intentional action in our thoughts, speech, and deeds. When we align our choices with His moral order, we create space for His indwelling presence to transform us from the inside out.

The Divine Exchange: Choosing Life cover

Today's Scripture

Seek good, and not evil, that ye may live: and so the LORD, the God of hosts, shall be with you, as ye have spoken. (Amos 5:15)

Reflection

The prophet Amos issued this challenge to a people who had ritualized their faith while neglecting justice. Their 'good' was compromised by dishonest scales and oppression. God’s command to 'seek good' pierces through spiritual complacency, reminding us that faith without ethical consistency is a hollow shell. Choosing good requires examining our motives, relationships, and systems we support, ensuring they reflect divine love.

This divine exchange operates on a spiritual law: what we pursue with our hearts determines what we receive from God. When we habitually seek good—through acts of mercy, truth-telling, or advocacy—we cultivate soil where His presence takes root. Conversely, neglecting this choice allows darkness to encroach, dulling our sensitivity to His voice. The 'evil' we must reject is not only sin but any distraction that crowds out life-giving obedience.

Modern believers face subtler temptations—comfortable moral ambiguity, performative righteousness, or passive complicity. God's call to 'live' through good choices remains urgent. This pursuit isn’t about perfection but persistent alignment. Like a compass pointing north, it orients our daily decisions toward His kingdom values, even when inconvenient or countercultural.

The promise here is profound: 'the LORD... shall be with you.' His presence isn’t automatic; it’s earned through faithful discernment. When we wrestle with hard choices, remembering this exchange reorders our priorities. We discover that seeking good doesn’t just please God—it unleashes His power to heal brokenness through our lives, turning ordinary moments into instruments of divine restoration.

Prayer

Father, grant me discernment to distinguish between good and evil in every area of life. Strengthen my resolve to pursue righteousness, even when it costs me. Forgive me for the times I’ve overlooked injustice or prioritized comfort over Your kingdom. Let Your presence transform my choices, making me a conduit of Your justice and mercy. Empower me to seek what is good, through Jesus’ name. Amen.
